To say that the past few days have been heavy + draining is truly an understatement. So much coming from all angles - Conservatives, Democrats, The far-left, The far-right, Celebrities voicing their often (uninformed) opinion. I try reading opinions that differ from mine to stay abreast of what others think but sometimes it’s hard to read. In addition to my mind racing about the overarching question of.. What now? What happens next? I’ve had to take time off of Instagram yesterday to evaluate that for myself -⁣
Where do I want to go from here?⁣
How can I make a significant change in my own life?⁣
How can I educate myself because there is so much that I still don’t know?⁣
One thing I’ll say for sure is that not everyone is going to get it, and this moment in time will not eradicate racism in America, or globally. That I know for sure - it’s not about being pessimistic, but rather being a realist and hopeful for the future.⁣

I’ve seen a lot of people have a HUGE awakening and look deep inside themselves and for that, I’m grateful and I’m hopeful. At the end of the day, racism is a very real thing. Colourism is a very real thing. Having a co-worker once tell me “that she doesn’t even consider me Black, just a tanned version of her.” HUH? Because I look & sound different than the Black people you see on TV or in Movies? Do you see how that’s problematic? Racism is Prejudice + Power and I’ve been repeating this message to a lot of people over the past few days - it works hand in hand. …and real change, means evaluating both sides of the coin. Just because you’ve never seen something or haven’t experienced it personally - doesn’t mean it’s not real. Black people are not a monolith and we all have our own experiences but I don’t think I’ve ever met a Black person or a person of DEEP colour that has not experienced racism/prejudice because of their skin colour and phenotype. Isn’t that something?⁣

From all ethnicities and economic backgrounds one thing Black people share, is pain — and this is the first time in my entire life that all people are finally getting a glimpse of what that pain is all about.

Thank you so much for all the words of encouragement and solidarity that has made it way through this account over the past few days - I sincerely appreciate it. I appreciate every DM/comment/repost etc. to spread the word as far as possible.⁣ I went on a run this evening, just to TRY and clear my head. My parents called me just to check-in and I could’ve bursted into tears right in the grocery store.. it’s all so heavy, it’s all so sad 💔

The work doesn’t stop and I just want to stress how important it is to stay focused on what matters and the real message. Keep having these conversations online AND in private - with your children, friends, co-workers, colleagues and the like. You don’t know what you don’t know and for far too long, this sort’ve thing has been incredibly easy to turn a blind eye to.⁣
